The Effects of TV Turnoff Week

Well it’s been a little over a week since I participated in TV Turnoff Week 2007 and I have to say that the effects of my not watching TV for the week, have been… well odd for lack of a better word.

I’ve actually started to read a little more now. I’m planning to go through a backlog of books that I have, but I’ve started with some books that I recently picked up from the 2007 Green Living Show. It’s funny that as a grown-up I’m now reading for fun as opposed to the kid/teenager back in elementary & high school who essentially had to be forced to read. Go figure!

I’m still playing video games, but not as much, since I don’t go home after work a lot of days, instead opting to take advantage of the particularly nice weather and just take in the sites around Toronto. When I do find time to play video games, it usually ends up being a good 1-hour or so session.

I suppose the big question is – Am I still watching TV? And the answer to that is – Yes. Although not as much as I was before. I’m just watching a few of my favourite shows (i.e. Heroes, Lost, Bones) and when commercial time rolls around I switch my TV to my computer and do a quick bit of surfing. Since most of the shows are in sweeps and are wrapping up there seasons, that means I’ll probably be watching even less TV during the summer.

To be honest, I’m really not sure how long this will last, but last year, as I have mentioned previously, I went w/o watching TV for a good six months. It wasn’t until I started watching Heroes (probably around October-ish) that I started getting back into TV. Hopefully I can [at the very least] minimize the amount of TV I watch, even in the Winter time, when the weather isn’t so nice and not conducive to being outdoors.  I suppose it’d be nice to not have to rely on the TV for entertainment on a constant basis.
