Saving the environment and money

Often times electronic manufacturers come out with a new model of their product in a rather short period of time.  Apple for instance releases a new iPod (what seems like) once a year.

If you’re not an early adopter, you may benefit from the short life cycle of the latest electronic gadgets.  This according to an article on Planet Green.

Every time a new iPod is released, thousands of slightly older models go on sale on sites such as craigslist, eBay, and Amazon at a fraction of the new price. Why? Because early adopters must always own the latest model of everything, and are constantly upgrading. And because early adopters may have more of a disposable income, they can pay a premium for it.

This is good news for those who may not need a paper light laptop or a GPS receiver that pronounces the street names…just yet.

Buying a used, older generation iPod may save you a couple hundred dollars when compared to the price of a brand new one. And by the time it finds its way to you, it has spent enough time in the real world to develop a personality.

Purchase Trickle Down Electronics

Why buy an older/refurbished model of a product?

Well if you’re keen on saving money (and who isn’t in this economic downturn we’re experiencing?) then buying an olde or refurbished gadgets will do just that.  Most manufacturers and stores offer good quality refurbished products.  Refurbished products go through rigorous testing to ensure that they’re like new.

The other reason to buy an older/refurbished product, is that it extends the life of a gadget. and means that there’s one less toxic piece of technology that’s filling up our landfills.

So there are definite advantages to not being an early adopter.  And if you’re the type who doesn’t care about having the latest, “greatest” gadget, you’ll be helping out the environment and still be somewhat on trend.
