40 days and 40 nights of being green
Lent started a couple of days ago, but it’s still not too late to get a start on the resolutions you could make for the Lenten season.
Matt McDermot of Planet Green admits that he’s not a Christian he does offer up some helpful green resolutions that you could use for the lenten season. And for those of you that aren’t deeply religious, you can still take advantage of these resolutions to help your spirit and the environment.
One of the tips that McDermot offers up is going vegan/vegetarian:
Go Vegetarian, At Least Part-Time
It’s hardly a secret that I frequently tell people that adopting a vegetarian or vegan diet is one of the most powerful things you can do to green your lifestyle. But I also realize that for many people, doing it in one go may be a bit much.
So what I suggest is that for the next 40 days you try being a part-time vegetarian. Cut meat out of your diet (and that means fish too…if it’s got eyes it’s out) for at least three full days a week. Or if you’d prefer, make it one full day and then one meal every other day. I admit that it’s a pretty big dietary change for some people, but with the right vegetarian recipes in hand, I bet you won’t find it nearly as hard as you think.
