Flying garbage versus hot smelly garbage

We’re almost a month into the garbage strike and it seeems that neither side is going to give in to the other’s demands, although from the time of writing this, there is word that the city is looking over the union’s latest counter offer.

After having talked with a few different friends who live in various parts of the city, one thing I’ve noticed them say is that the garbage pile up has not been as bad as they thought it would be.  Granted, the city was prepared this time around and named several different dump sites where people could dispose of their full bags of trash.

However the city’s attempts at closing of the garbage bins in public areas (such as streets, parks, etc.) were quickly done away with.  Because plastic wrap really isn’t that hard to take off.  Garbage did start to fill most bins around the city, but not as badly as most of my friends thought it would.

I’ll also have to admit that the smell of garbage hasn’t been as bad.  That’s probably due in part to the relatively cool summer we have been experiencing.  Since I have been riding in to work everyday, I notice that the garbage pile up hasn’t been as bad as I thought it would be.

Last weekend however, we experienced a flash thunder storm followed by very strong winds.  These stronge winds really made garbage fly around.  I’m sure many people who were out and about that day were pelted with at least one piece of flying garbage.

This begs the question, which is worse – garbage flying at your face or hot stinky garbage piled on the streets?
